WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS FALL AT THE FRIENDS…

October 5, 2023

WHEW! FIRST OF ALL – A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL BOOK SALE.

We have a very special community that supports the Friends in many ways. Thank you to those who keep on donating the books that we sell. Thank you our members who recognize the importance of our work. Thank you to our volunteers who sort and clean the donated books, set up the book sales, work the books sales by checking out purchases and/or keep the shelves stocked and take the whole thing down at the end of each sale. They do this 3 times a year!! And finally, thank you to the Napa Library. They support our mission as we support theirs.

We are looking forward to Friends of the Library Week later this month. Watch this space for the date and time of our celebration. And you know our celebrations always means free books to children.

As we gear up for the December book sale – remember books always make great gifts! – we will be participating in the 2023 CanDo Give!Guide.  Napa non-profits are presented in one easy-to-use donation platform.  It’s a one stop shop for your year end giving.  Watch this site for more information about how the Friends is participating, what giving bonus’s we have to offer  (yes, lucky donors can be rewarded for donating, how’s that for incentive to participate!) and how to find us in the Give!Guide.

Your Donations are Put to Good Use!

April 14, 2023

Ever wonder what else we do with your generous donations?

Frequently we get requests from community organizations to provide suitable books for their programs. Because you all are so generous with your donations, we are able to honor many of these requests. Sometimes it is a box or two of children’s books that are needed to give away at a literacy program.

Recently we were able to fulfill a request from Napa State Hospital to provide Spanish language books for a Spanish – speaking adult patient. We were able to put together a multi-volume donation including a blank journal that had been among the books left by a donor. The program director who made this request let us know after the patient received the books that he was much less isolated and was able to engage more…just because of a simple book donation.

We have also been asked to gather suitable books for programs at the Napa County Jail. Program directors know that giving someone a book to read gives them a chance to be entertained, nourished and challenged. Again the thank you notes we receive confirm that a book can do wonders in many ways.

If you have a program that could benefit from a donation of books, CDs or DVDs, please contact our Book Sale Manager, Bruce Taylor at (707)253-4614 for more information.

June Booksale is Here!

April 9, 2023

Our June Booksale is upon us!!

Summer comes with no school (if you are lucky), vacations, warm weather, swimming pools and fun with your friends. What better way to enjoy the summer than to stock up on your summer reading. Whether you are a parent with children looking for something to do or students who like a little escape from all of the activity of summer or someone who looks forward to their beach chair, a frosty beverage and a good book, we have the answer!

Join us on Saturday, June 10th through Sunday, June 18th in the Community Room at the Napa County Library. We continue to receive donations of great summer reading choices for adults and children. Speaking of children, remember that every student or child (age 0- ?) can pick out 3 free books every day they visit the book sale. What a great way to build your library!

Speaking of building a library, we received a generous donation of Chinese and Japanese Art Books which will be available for sale at the June sale. Stop by and check them out!

Following are our booksale hours:
Saturday, June 10 (Members’ Day)  10am – 4pm
Sunday, June 11  1pm – 4pm
Monday, June 12  10am – 7pm
Tuesday, June 13  10am – 7pm
Wednesday, June 14  10am – 7pm
Thursday, June 15  10am – 7pm
Friday, June 16 (Half Price Day)  10am – 5pm
Saturday, June 17 (Bag Day #1 – fill one bag of books for $5)  10am – 4pm
Sunday, June 18 (Bag Day #2 – fill two bags of books for $5)  1pm – 4pm

You are the key to our success! You are who keeps our mission going… you shop at our sales and you donate you books, CD’s and DVD’s that we then sell to your fellow shoppers. Or if you are like one of our frequent shoppers…you buy back a book you donated! We can’t do this without you!!

SEE YOU AT THE SALE!

What’s Happening!!

January 17, 2023

We recently received a request from Enhanced Patient Services at the Napa State Hospital. They coordinate volunteers to augment and help meet patients basic needs for social interaction,  self esteem and self fulfillment.  They also track fundraising activites for activities to supplement the education, recreation and entertainment needs of NSH patients.

They were in need of books for their Spanish speaking patients.  In particular one of their patients reads Spanish but cannot hear.  Finding books suitable for this patient will give him a way to keep his mind busy and entertained.  We received a wonderful email from them, thanking us for the Spanish language story books, Spanish learning/dictionaries and even an AA Diary book.

It never ceases to amaze us how books help us reach so many different Napa communities.  Your donation of books, CD’s and DVD as well as monetary contributions as well as membership in the Friends of the Library allow us to continue our service to our Napa neighb0rs.
