As Friends of the Napa Library it should go without saying that “We Love Books!” and spend a lot of time reading new publications, old friends and soon to be old friends. We wanted to share our passion with our community so we asked our membership to help us compile a READING LIST aka “BOOKS WE LOVE” in hopes that our suggestions give you a new reason to love books as we do. It is sort of like “Employee Favorites” at your local bookstore.

The list is made up of books we have read in our own book clubs, books from our favorite authors that may or may not be as well known as some of their works and other gems we have run into from time to time. And we try to cover as many genres as possible to appeal to as many of you as possible.

UPCOMING SALE DATES

Saturday, August 19th through Sunday, August 27th

Construction is over, the Children’s Library has relocated back into their beautiful, newly renovated space and we are swimming in books…. so without further ado.. The Friends of the Napa Library Multi-Day/Multi-Media Sales return.

Our donors have been busy and we have an overwhelming amount of books, CD’s, DVD’s and Audio Books for sale.  The boxes are stacked to the ceiling and we are bursting with inventory.  In addition to our usual broad selection we have a concentration of topics such as Sherlock Holmes materials: older selections of books about chess; lots of biographies; materials on classical music; and a lifetime of cook books.  

As always; we have boxes and boxes and boxes of children’s books ready for back to school reading.  The Children’s Corner will be waiting for little and not so little hands to discover the wonder of books and reading.  Don’t forget: everyday a child or student visits the sale, they get to take home 3 free books!

Just about every library has a “Friends of” organization or a similar group that, due to their great love of books and reading, supports their public or private library.  And in Napa it is US… the Friends of the Napa Library. Our members are from all walks of life and share an interest in maintaining a strong local free library.  We further the mission of the library through funding many programs such as WorkForce, English as a Second Language classes and many children’s activities. We raise these funds through membership dues and our regionally popular Book Sales (see the post above, 10 Day Book Sales Return). We also sell ear buds and flash drives at the library.

So what does a membership get you? First of all, it allows you to support literacy, the library and your local community.  For $.05 per day you help bring the joy of reading to children and adults and fund programs that enrich the lives of yourself and your neighbors. Membership also qualifies you to volunteer for the Book Sale by either sorting and cleaning donated books and/or working the Book Sales throughout the year.  If volunteering for the Friends isn’t your thing, membership also gets you entrance to the first day of the Book Sales so you have access to the choicest selections.

We have books – books – books to sell!

Our final One-Day Book Sale is Saturday, July 22 from 10am – 4pm in the Workforce Room at the Napa City/County Library.  The donations have been pouring in and we are running out of room so …we will again have a wide selection of books available and this time the cost will only be $1.  What a bargain!!!  So please join us on Saturday the 22nd for the best bargains in books!

We are pleased to announce that on the morning of Saturday, June 24th, we have expanded our one-day sale.  In addition to the book sale in the Workforce Room, we will be hosting FREE BOOKS FOR KIDS on the patio of the library from 10am to 12:30pm.  As with our regular sales, if a child is accompanied by an adult they will receive THREE (3) FREE BOOKS.  

In the Workforce Room from 10am – 4pm we will offer a selection of our excellent donations for sale. What a great way to stock up for your summer reading! Whether you have interest in popular fiction, cookbooks, history or the sciences, we will have many titles for sale.  And for all of you baseball fans, we have over 100 baseball related books ready for sale.  Please join us!!
