Once again the generous Napans donated so many used books we were able to hold our second Back Door/By the Box Book Sale this fall. The response from book-hungry Bay Area residents was overwhelming and we were able to sell all of the books we had collected for the sale.
Our regularly held multi-day sales successfully support many library programs. Because currently we cannot safely hold sales in their regular format, the Back Door/By the Box sales generate enough funds so we are still able to support some of the programs at the library.
Thank you to everyone who donated books, purchased boxes of books and volunteered to box donated books or work at the sale itself.
We continue to process donations and hope to collect enough books to hold our third sale very soon – hopefully before Christmas. Watch this website and social media for updates on when we will hold our next sale!
News
BY-the-BOX BACK DOOR BOOK SALE is BACK!
Did we get your attention? That’s right, the sale held in August was so successful we are bringing it bsack. We still cannot hold our quarterly multi-day sales. These sales fund many programs at the library, some of which continue regardless whether access to the library is available or not. So the inability to hold our regular Quarterly Book Sales in the Community Room. has a direct impact on the services available to library patrons. Current programs we have or are funding can be found by clicking here WHERE THE MONEY GOES!
Our generous donors continue to bring books, cds and dvd’s to resell which means it is time once again to get books into our customer’s hands where they can be enjoyed instead of sitting in boxes stacked to the ceiling.

BOOK DONATIONS – Please read!
The Friends of the Napa Library raises funds to support library programs mainly by holding quarterly used book sales and offering special books, CD’s and DVD’s in the lobby at the library. We rely on donations from the public and books the library removes from circulation to provide what we sell. We recognize that without these donations, our ability to raise funds would be severely limited.
However, until the library opens for business and we figure out how we will be able to accept donations on a regular basis we have limited ability to accept and process donations.. So please be patient if you have donations for us.
If you have small donations such as a bag/box or two, please use the bin located at the northeast corner of the library. We are able to empty the bins to keep the books safe.
Because we currently have no staff at the library, if you have a larger donation, please call for an appointment so we can meet you at the library. To make an appointment, please call Bruce Taylor, Book Sale Manager at 707.253.4614. He is available Monday – Friday mornings from 10am-12p. You may also leave a message and he will return your call. You may also contact him at brucepensionato2001@gmail.com.
We currently do not have the room or staff or security to accept donations that cannot fit into the bins. So please understand our current limitations and not leave donations outside the bins.
We appreciate your donations and your patience while we work our way through the “new” normal, whatever that may bring!
WE ARE HAVING A BOOKSALE*!
Thursday, July 30 – Friday July 31 – Saturday August 1
Thursday, August 6 – Friday, August 7 – Saturday, August 8
10:30am – 12noon each day
The first weekend was hugely successful! Thank you to everyone who bought books and for your patience as we figured the logistics!
Did we get your attention? That’s right, although we have been unable to hold our first two book sales this year and it appears that the September book sale is going to be another casualty of the COVID pandemic, we are going to hold our First Ever Friends of the Napa Library Back Door – By the Box Book Sale*. As you are all probably aware, all proceeds from our quarterly book sales fund many programs at the Napa County Library. Current programs we have or are funding can be found on our About Us Page. So, without our sales, many programs at the library will be cut back or eliminated.
What is a Back Door – By the Box Book Sale? Because the public has been very generous with book donations over the last 4 months, we have a lot of books to sell. But because we can’t facilitate customers shopping as you would normally would, we are trying something new..a Back Door – By the Box Book Sale to get books into our customer’s hands where they can be enjoyed instead of sitting in boxes stacked to the ceiling.

ANNUAL MEETING HELD
On Wednesday,May 20th, the rescheduled Annual Membership Meeting of the Friends of the Napa Library was held via Zoom. Probably because most of us have been “Zooming” with family and friends during these past weeks, the meeting went very well and we were able to conduct the business of the Friends.
Re-elected to the Board of Directors for new three year terms were Lori Bowling, Kathy Martin, Robert Martin, Barbara Stone and Marilee Talley. Thank you for continuing to serve the Friends and the Napa Library.
The main focus of the meeting was how we are going to continue to raise funds to support programs at the Napa Libary in light of new regulations for library use. We understand that rules and parameters will continue to be refined and we will work within those changes. So please be patient with us as we figure out what we can and cannot do to raise funds going forward. And rest assured we will do everything possible to support our patrons’ love of books, music CD’s and DVD’s.
