Friends Participate in Napa Community Open House & Emergency Preparedness Fair

June 17, 2019

The Friends of the Napa Library participated in the Napa Community Open House and Emergency Preparedness Fair held on Tuesday, June 4th.

Attendees at the Fair were greeted by 45 information tables, representing 11 of the County Departments. Information on disaster preparedness was available to all in English and Spanish. Along with the preparedness theme, there were representatives from the Napa Library. The Library staff signed up 105 children, teen & adult logs and 5 week logs for summer reading and made 20 new library cards.

The Friends of the Napa Library (FOL) staffed a table that featured free book giveaways for children. We gave away five (yes 5!) boxes of children’s books during the three hour fair. Those who were  young-at-heart also enjoyed browsing the books.  The Friends is frequently invited to community events to share books and the love of reading with the communty.  Our next event is the Library’s Summer Reading event held on Tuesday, July 30 at the Elk’s Club.  Click here for more information.

A wonderFOL time was had by all!

MAY BOOK IS HERE! May 18 – May 26, 2019

May 5, 2019

Seems like we just had a book sale (and a very successful one at that) but it is time for our pre-summer sale. Once again we have had incredible donations of books, DVD’s and CD’s from the community. The library also donates books that have been in circulation for a while and need to be passed on to our shoppers. That way they can make room for new books on their shelves and shoppers get to take home a classic or favorite for their shelves. You will notice that we have begun to sort fiction by popular authors. Check out the fiction sales area to discover if your favorite author is included. The number of books donationed determines which authors get their own box(es)!

WE GET MAIL….

January 1, 2019

Donation

In the last quarter of 2018, we received a letter from Harper, a nine year old Napa resident and fan of the Napa Library. As noted in this letter, she sold bookmarks and pictures to raise money for the Friends of the Napa Library. She sent us $6.61 to be used to support the programs we raise funds for throughout the year. One of our goals is to encourage young readers to become life long readers. Harper’s hard work and donation make us especially proud and we are honored that she chose us to benefit from her hard work!

Favorite Library Program

After the Friends of the Library Week program (click here for information) we received a note from a frequent library user.  She was excited to learn that the Art in the Library Program had been selected as the favorite program by voters.  Being the favorite program meant that Art in the Library received the proceeds from the lobby sales for the celebration week.  While the artists provide their creations at no cost to the Library, the program does incur costs associated with creating the displays, producing written materials and the artist’s receptions.  We were glad that this important program was chosen to receive special recognition.  And so was our correspondent!
